"Homeschooling" Part 2

So, this week has gone MUCH better than the last week. I've been so convicted that I need to enjoy my boys more and have fun with them, so I decided that would be the focus this week. The abcjesuslovesme curriculum includes songs and games, but for some reason, I just haven't been doing them. I'm not really a super fun person (most Type-A's aren't ;>) so I tend to focus more on worksheets, etc.

Caleb REALLY responds well to music, and he totally got into singing the B-I-B-L-E this morning. He would throw his hands up in the air and say something that sounded like, "BIBLE!". SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute.
We're studying "attentiveness" this week and are reading about King Josiah. They found a scroll hidden in the wall and read God's law to the Israelites, who listened "attentively". :> I decided that for craft time, we'd make scrolls and HOLY COW! Did not realize what a hit it would be. I hadn't planned on this, but Jonathan wanted to hide the scroll in the "wall" (bookshelf) and find it and then read it like King Josiah did. We read the verse of the week, Prov 19:20 (listen to advice and in the end, you will be wise) over and over again. Maybe it'll stick...who knows!

We're also studying spatial concepts (up, down, in between, on top of) so we described where the scroll was hidden using spatial clues. Jonathan and I took turns hiding and describing, so he got to work on that as well.

I put Caleb in room time again today and he did SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. He still cried a little bit, but he settled down MUCH faster and I was able to get 15 min out of him. Jonathan worked on his pumpkin craft (compliments of Mimi) so I got 15 min of freedom to clean! WAHOO!!

I've also been a lot more deliberate about thinking of what Caleb would like. I spent some time this morning helping him put his pennies back into his 'money jar' (which worked really well on his fine motor skills) and he seemed a lot less frustrated than before. Then, I let him sit on the edge of the sink (back towards the long part of the counter so it was safe :>) and play in the running water for 30 min.

I have no idea what that did to our water bill (hope Michael doesn't read this post ;>) but I was able to cook double batches of 3 meals and freeze them, so it was totally worth it.

Maybe God is giving me a really great, easy, enjoyable week before the baby comes. Hopefully, this greatness keeps up.

Michael's birthday was today (Jonathan made him a super cute card yesterday but I couldn't find my camera so no pics) and since my mom got in today, Michael and I got to go out. We went to Cheesecake factory and got an entree, two drinks, and dessert for under $30. Wahoo!! We had a blast and really enjoyed what was probably our last date night for awhile.

I'm now officially 39 weeks pregnant and a day farther along than when I delivered Caleb. This is the only prego picture I have. I realized I didn't have any the other night and had Michael take this one mostly for the baby book (poor third child). Since my mom got here today, baby can come anytime he/she wants!! It's already been wonderful having a bit of extra help--I got to lay in bed 30 extra minutes during rest time today while she played with the boys, then she cleaned up the kitchen after my marathon-cooking endeavors these past few days. Thanks, MOM!!!!

You are such a great mom, Shanna! I know you feel like you need to be continually working on something in yourself and it gets you down that you can never reach a point of perfection, but I think that's what makes you great... great at being a mom, a wife, a friend, a child of God. You don't settle for mediocre. You really are an inspiration to me and I'm so thankful for you! I was truly blessed by our period of "closeness" this last 6 months. You challenge me in so many ways! I love you!

Can't WAIT to meet baby greene!!!

You enjoy the time with your mom and all the help and neat ideas that she brings. I know she is so excited about being there with all of you and is relieved she made it to your home before you delivered the new baby Greene. I do enjoy reading all that you do--makes me tired, but I enjoy READING about it! I can't believe you made up three meals in that length of time and looked like Caleb had a great time while you were so busy.
