Jonathan Turns Four!!

Can I just say that four is awesome! Someone once told me (when Jonathan turned three) that three was worse than two and I thought, "Lord help us, one of us is not going to survive." BUT, three was indeed better than two and now, four is much, much sweeter than three. I think four is the perfect blend of sweet, cuddly, kissy little boy and independent, controlled, responsible big boy. If I could just freeze time right here I would. Loving. it.

Jonathan had been looking forward to his birthday for about a month. We looked at our little calender that we have (Buzz Lightyear), counted days, etc and finally, the big day arrived! Jonathan bounced out of bed that morning and asked excitedly, "Did I grow? Am I bigger than a three year old?" I measured him up against my waist and dutifully replied, "Oh, Jonathan. I think so! I think you DID grow last night. You're BIGGER than a three year old!" All day he long, he was in a fantastic mood and did GREAT at the party. And, he's been trying more/doing more because "now that [he's] four, he can do anything."

Jonathan has been really into dragons lately, so I looked online for a dragon cake and found one that I thought not even I could screw up. ;>

Jonathan was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute while we were decorating and kept saying, "This is the coolest cake EVER!" and "WOW! I LOVE my cake!" and "Thank you SOOOOOOO much mommy and Puddin' for my cake!" ;> Again, he's enthusiastic about EVERYTHING!

We are soooooooooooo thankful to be near such supportive family during our funky transition. Both sets of my grandparents were able to come, my aunt and uncle, and my brother made it over to my parents' house. I was really nervous about the party because Jonathan wouldn't have any "friends" there and he had so many last year at his party. I needn't have worried; he had more than a blast and that's all I care about. Here are some fun pictures of the day:

Pinata: Uncle Shane had to come and help knock it off, but Jonathan claimed the victory in the end.

Our little Viking.

Favorite picture, hands down of the whole day:

Uncle Shane's Dragon pajamas. Jonathan has not taken them off, wears them to bed, to work in the garden, to ride bikes, etc and insists on being called 'Toothless'. Can I just say again how much I love this magical world we've entered?

Cape waving in the breeze,
Grinning wildly with twinkling eyes
you turn your cherub face back to me,
throw your head back and laugh as
your little legs peddle faster and faster.

Pure, ecstatic, untroubled joy,
oblivious to our burdens.
Time, stop! Little boy, slow down!
Why must you peddle faster and faster
into life, so eager to grow up?
You promised that when you were a
"big, big boy" and "all grown up"
you'd still give me kisses and cuddles.
I'll hold you to it.

I love you Jonathan!

You are such a great mom, Shanna! You are so good at giving your boys what they need! And you are becoming quite the cake maker! I may have to ask for a few tips; although I'm pretty sure my girls will continue their fascination with cupcakes as long as their daddy does, which is no fun for me!

Jonathan is such as sweet boy, but ALL boy nonetheless! I am so glad we get a chance to see glimpses into your kids lives as they grow.
